What Happens When You Block Someone
- They can’t see your profile, videos, or Stories
- They can’t comment on your posts
- They can’t message you
- They won’t appear in your Following or Followers
- They won’t get a notification that they were blocked (they may notice they can’t find you)
How to Unblock Someone
On Mobile
- Go to your profile
- Tap the three lines (menu) → Settings and privacy
- Tap Privacy → Blocked accounts
- Find the person and tap Unblock
- Confirm
On PC
- Click your profile picture → Settings
- Go to Privacy → Blocked accounts
- Find the person and click Unblock
- Confirm
Block vs. Restrict
TikTok’s Restrict option is softer than Block:
- Restrict: Their comments are hidden from others (only they and you see them); they can still view your content
- Block: They can’t view your content or interact with you
Use Restrict if you want to limit impact without fully blocking.
If You Can’t Find Block
- Update TikTok to the latest version
- Check: Profile → Menu (≡) → Settings → Privacy → Blocked accounts to manage blocks
- On some versions, tap the user’s profile → ⋯ → Block (or similar wording)
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the person know I blocked them?
No. TikTok doesn't notify users when they're blocked. They may notice they can't find your profile, see your videos, or message you.
Can a blocked person see my old comments on their videos?
No. Once blocked, they can't see your profile or any of your activity, including past comments.
What happens if I unblock someone?
They can see your profile and content again, follow you, and message you. They won't be automatically re-followed—you'd need to follow them again if you want to.
Should I block or report?
Use Block to stop someone from interacting with you. Use Report when they've violated community guidelines (harassment, spam, illegal content). You can do both—block first for immediate relief, then report if the behavior warrants it.
Can I block someone who hasn't followed me?
Yes. You can block anyone from their profile, a comment, or a DM, regardless of follow status.
TL;DR: Open their profile, tap the three dots, then Block. Same from a comment, DM, or your following list. On PC, same options from their profile. To unblock: Settings → Privacy → Blocked accounts. Comment moderation guide if you're dealing with spam at scale.
